project title

postgraduate research

I am completing my Masters of Research (MScR) at the University of Edinburgh. My research is investigating the genome evolution and whole genome duplication within the parasitic plant species Lathraea and its relatives in the Orobanchaceae. My project is supervised by Prof. Alex Twyford (lead supervisor) and Prof. Dan Macqueen.

Biography & Previous Work

I have an undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences (Plant Science) from the University of Edinburgh. For my undergraduate thesis I measured the genetic diversity of 22 European populations of Melampyrum sylvaticum, for applications in conservation at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh. During this time, I met Prof. Alex Twyford and started developing my interest in evolution and bioinformatics.

I completed a year abroad at the University of British Columbia, Canada, where I also undertook an internship in the Angert lab, sponsored by the Gatsby Foundation. I have also spent a summer working in the Nordborg lab in Vienna.

outside of work

I am a fan of any hobby that involves being outside (climbing and cycling) and in the winter I cope with the cold by dancing salsa.
