PhD Project: Impacts of rearing history on cardiac and immune development and performance in Atlantic salmon
Supervised by: Dr. Nick Wade (lead supervisor) and Prof. Dan Macqueen (The Roslin Institute)
Postgraduate research

I am a PhD candidate in Genetics and Genomics. As part of the SalmoStrong partnership between Roslin and Mowi Scotland, funded by BBSRC and Mowi, I am integrating my bioinformatics experience with wet lab techniques to help understand salmon robustness phenotypes, including those associated with changing early rearing environment. The SalmoStrong initiative aims to tackle rising mortality in Scottish farmed Atlantic salmon by developing more resilient stocks better adapted to Scottish farming conditions.
Biography and previous work

I have been intrigued by biology and animals since childhood. I earned a Bachelor of Technology in Bioinformatics from Amity University Uttar Pradesh, India, graduating with a gold medal in academics. I then completed a Master of Science (MSc) in Bioinformatics at The University of Edinburgh. During my MSc dissertation at the Roslin Institute, I studied the function of duplicated pigmentation genes in the visibly colourless Pacific white shrimp, a commercially vital species. This project introduced me to the fascinating field of aquaculture, which has captivated me ever since.

Outside of work

When I am not working, I enjoy creating academic and experiential content on LinkedIn as it brings together my scientific communication, creative writing, graphic design, and video editing skills. I also like to explore different places and cuisines, and I love to play football!
